A few things from the first WordCamp Toulouse

I went to my first European WordCamp last week, which coincidentally was also the first WordCamp Toulouse. It was such a nice event – great sessions, so well organized, nice branding, tasty food (with wine, and chocolatine, of course), friendly people! The live transcriptions (from www.lemessageur.com) were fantastic, and super helpful for someone still weak in french, like me.

Some interesting things I’m excited/still thinking about:

  • Don’t forget about PHP’s APCu for caching! In single server configurations it is significantly more energy efficient than Redis! (super interesting from Pierre Lannoy)
  • I can’t wait to try out the html-to-gutenberg webpack plugin! Build simple HTML, add some declarative markup, and out comes a fully editable (and native) custom block! (Thanks Julien Verneaut)
  • Design Linters exist in Figma! To help keep design files clean and aide the handover. Unfortunately some don’t support tokens, but I’m sure there are more. Design Lint was specifically mentioned by Benjamin Grolleau.
  • Lots of folks talking about curating the content editor experience in the block editor (but framing it differently than I have – interesting!)

Thank you and congrats to the organizers for such a great event!
